The following steps should be taken before having your pest control agent treat for fleas, bed bugs, roaches, or ants.
Ants
- Move small items and storage away from walls.
- Move items away from back countertop area to the front or place on table.
- Clear items from window sill areas.
- Clean (sweep, wet clean, or mop) all floors, window sills and counter top areas.
- Keep children and pets away until treatment is dry to touch (approx 15 min. to 1hr.)
- Do not clean edges (floor & countertop) for several days or weeks if possible.
Occupant/ tenant will need to vacate 2-4 hrs following application. Contact Physician if a medical condition exists such as: allergies, asthma, pregnancy, heart trouble, emphysema, etc What to expect after treatment: ant activity will gradually diminish after a few days, and will take 2-3 weeks to eliminate totally.
Bed Bugs
- Remove all bedding including comforters, wash but do not put back on. Store items in trash bags until after treatment.
- Remove items off the carpeted floors, including under the bed and inside closets, such as toys, shoes, boxes, paper, etc. These items can be put on the kitchen table, or center area of hard floors. On vinyl, concrete or wood floors you only need to move items to the center of the floor.
- Vacuum all floors (carpets, vinyl, concrete and wood), including under the couch and chair cushions. When you are done vacuuming, put the vacuum bag in a sealed trash bag and place in the dumpster.
- If you have a fish tank, you will need to shut off the pump and cover with a sheet.
- After the treatment, all residents will need to remain out of their home or apartment for 2-3 hours after treatment until the product is completely dry. This includes any pets.
- Please do not have your carpets steam cleaned after treatment. It will wash the product away. The product will last 60-90 days.
- Wash and let dry on medium to high heat: clothing, bed linens, (comforters, sheets, blankets, pillow shams, skirting) and curtains (hot dryer or dry clean optional). Place other contents in black garbage bags and set in full sun for hours (or days if needed to reach 120 to 125 degrees) to heat and destroy bed bug eggs, and adult stages. Find alternate treatment - or ask ABES technician for items that heat may damage or if not summer temperatures.
- Clock radios, stereos, and other appliances in living rooms, family rooms, and bedrooms would need discarded, or treated by owner/ occupant, if found to be infested.
- All box springs and mattresses will need to be placed in bug proof zippered bags after initial treatment. These bags can be purchased by occupant/ tenant/owner. They are available at Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, Kohls, and matteress stores. Two to three services are normally required, as a minimum, at 7-14 day intervals.
- Remove contents that are on or in :dressers, night stands, coffee tables, end tables, or any furniture near beds, sofas, and chairs. These pieces of furniture will need to be taken apart, turned over for inspection, and possible treatment.
- Please move or remove clutter to allow adequate room for ABES technicians to turn over mattress, box spring, bed frame, sofas, and chairs for inspection and possible treatment.
What to expect after treatment: Initial treatment reqires the most technician service time and expense. 90% + of activitiy will be eliminated on first service if preperation steps are followed. Egg development to adults will require follow up services at 7-14 day intervals, normally 2-3 treatments. Full control can not be obtained without occupants help and cooperation with treatment preparation steps, as well as post treatment sanitation and elimination of excess clutter, storage and clothing
